Alessia Cara Dives Deep And Shares Her Personal Meaning & Appreciation For New Album, ‘Love & Hyperbole’!

Hi fam! Hope you all are having a fantastic day. I am back at it again with another press conference blog. Thank you to 1824 for inviting me, I got to learn a lot about Alessia Cara’s new upcoming music and this new chapter in her career! It was kind of full circle for me because I have been listening to her for around 10 years when she first started. I remember even seeing her live a couple of times when she opened for Shawn Mendes! I have seen her in concert a few times and I am excited for her to be back at it with her music and new album, Love & Hyperbole which comes out Friday February 14, 2025!

It’s been a decade since her hit song, “Here”, which was my favorite song and the song where I discovered her music. Alessia has had incredible success since then including her Grammy for Best New Artist which she was the first Canadian recipient. Just a lick of examples from the list of her successful songs also include, “Scars To Your Beautiful” which I absolutely love and adore. Her Zedd collaboration, “Stay”, and another personal favorite, “1-800-273-8255” with Logic and Khalid. Her sophomore album The Pains of Growing won Album of the Year at the 2020 Juno Awards, where she was also named Songwriter of the Year, talk about natural talent and achieving goals!

Gigi from The Luna Collective asked, “The visuals related to Love & Hyperbole have included vibrant shades of red. Sometimes they stand out against black, sometimes they’re integrated into the environment. How would you say these visuals relate to the themes of the album?” Alessia says that she has Synesthesia. Which is when she sees colors when she hears sounds. “I have so many images in my mind. For this album, there was an imagery of red.” She explained that represents love a lot of the time. Alessia said how this was a wine color, sophisticated, and rich. “The warmth and cool tones were very indicative. They have contrast and you need contrast. Just like in life, beautiful, the texture. It felt like the right thing to represent the music. This is the rich and more sophisticated version of myself.”

Dara from Albums Obsessed (happy bday Dara) asked, “which track feels most personal to you and why?” Alessia said how every song is super personal. ” “Fire” to me is the first time i wrote a love song without fear or negativity tied with it. This song feels super personal to me. It’s the first time writing a love song in a happy and free way. It’s just like a love letter and feels open. It’s about being in love in a lighter sense. It is naked almost. It feels scary but freeing and exciting.” I am so happy for Alessia feeling comfortable and free sharing her personal experiences with us.

Eleni from The Flip Side asked, “what was the easiest and hardest song to write on this new album?” The easiest songs, Alessia explained were, “Obvious” – felt like it came out of me. Along with “Fire”. “It felt like they already existed in a way and I caught them somehow.” I love this take because i can understand it very much, it was already part of her and she made it a reality. So awesome. Alessia then explained that there weren’t necessarily hard songs to write but there were some songs that “took on different forms” before they were complete. “Slow Motion” and “Night Time Thing” were two of those songs – “We had to fine tune them and evolve them a bit more. They more a little bit more difficult to nail.” Well either way her and her team’s process works because they always create masterpieces!

Neven from Setlist Media asked, “what is the most impactful part of the production process?” Alessia said, “The fact that i had a chance to record ~90% of this album with live musicians. I got to record with an orchestra, string players, horns. Just like in the 50s, 60s, and 70s they always recorded live, singing one take all the way through. I am so happy I can make music the way i wanted to make it now, the way i’ve always wanted to make. There is also a different outcome with everyone all together (in a good way). The way it’s supposed to be. Everyone is just jamming.” I am so excited to hear this album now knowing that she records all her music live. That makes it even better, I loveeeeee live music vibes and how fun is that with everyone just jamming. I wanna be in that recording room!

Alessia talked also about being shy. She was afraid going into studios if she wouldn’t be able to think of anything. She learned to allow herself to write freely. She says it is never a waste of time trying and meeting new people. Preach it, this is definitely something I, and I am sure many others can relate to in all different artistic circumstances!

Her confidence has definitely grown throughout these 10 years and i am so proud to see her flourish right now. I can’t believe how long I have been enjoying her music for, she has come a long way with so many successful and impressive achievements at such a young age, truly amazing.

Alessia is down to earth and reminds me of one of my besties. She seems like such a chill friend who is super humble and so talented.

We were also shown the album trailer and wow chills. It was so good y’all. I am so excited for this album. Her sound is so unique and has constant bops. I will continue to vouch for her music, I hope to see her live at an intimate show soon or in general!

Thank you so much for reading along. I hope you enjoyed and are going to stream her new album Love & Hyperbole when it comes out this Friday February 14, 2025! Awesome listen for Valentine’s Day!

Until next time, spread peace Fam! -andie :)💛
