Hey hey! Welcome back today I attended another 1824 press conference and Jacob Collier was the guest! Jacob Collier is getting prepared for the release of Vol. 4 of his Djesse album series set to release February 29th, 2024! He is a six-time Grammy winner at just the young age of 29 years old! He became the become the first British act in history to win four Grammys for each of his first four albums with 12 Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year in 2021. Jacob has released his latest single, “Mi Corazón” which had featured Camilo, an award-winning Colombian artist. He is just getting started on his success and long awesome career, and we are all excited to see him flourish!
The first question came from Will from Echo asked, “If you could set up a fan in a setting to listen to Djesse Part 4, what setting would that be?” Jacob responds and says, “it’s hard to describe one environment that would suit the whole album.” He says that he would almost want to choose a different place for each song. Which I love because that means you have a song for whatever you’re feeling. “100,000 Voices” which is the first song of the album, feels like a really really is big stadium song, outdoors, and in a huge part of nature. “Witness” as a driving to gym song, which he says is crazy, because that is where Will said he listens to the song too! On the other hand, he says that “Box of Stars” has a trans night club vibe. “Little Blue” he says is also a “listen to in nature” song too.
Tia and Sophia from Friends Not Fans asked a question regarding his song, “Witness Me”. They asked, “If you could go into the creative process of the song and the role of experimentation into achieving that sound.” Jacob first off mentions that Shawn mendes and him being friends. Which I love because you all know he is oe of my favorites. They hung out malibu 2021, threw paint, and bonded over love of Gospel music. I love that! He says it is his favorite form of music because it is powerful and there is a community. He “sat on that seat wondering where it would go.” Jacob said he had to be patient, which makes sense. He then went on to tell the story of how Kirk Franklin and him saw each other at Grammys, then came to his studio arlington Texas. “He was just amazing.” They recorded 4 songs that day, including his main song, “Witness Me”. He said he “Cranked the Gospel up to 11, amazing Spirit and sound.” He is someone who is really faithful and heartfelt. Then, Jacob called up Stormzy, sent a verse, and then it all came together. Jacob emphasizes that he had to have patience, attention to detail, and making sure the sound is right for the song, “Witness Me”. It definitely “Found its feet in the end”, he says. I love the creative process for this song and the thoughtfulness that went behind his writing process.
He says it’s a joyous record and there are lots of different flavors of joy. I really love this press conference. He has a way with his words and is so generous with being himself and giving his answers to all of us.
He gave a lot of insight on his music, growing up, and his musical process. Throughout the whole conference he was so very sincere and he had a lot of important things to say, I am glad I was there! He really is a cool dude and I wish him nothing but success because he deserves it, especially after getting to know him a bit better!
Jacob seems really cool and talented. It’s awesome how much he has accomplished at such a young age, it’s inspiring! Don’t forget to check out his newest album, Vol. 4 of his Djesse album series set to release February 29th, 2024! Thank you so much for reading along and hope to see you soon!
Until next time!
