Hi everyone! I am back with another 1824 press conference blog. I really enjoyed my time getting to know Obai and hearing some of his new music. Obai is an 18 year old Geffen Records artist from Phoenix, Arizona. He makes catchy R&B bops mixed with a bit of pop that is relatable to many. His new EP comes out next week on Friday January 26th, 2024! You will have to give it a listen because i can tell you right now it slays, from what we were able to hear. His single, “The River”, was just featured in Season 19 of Grey’s Anatomy. What an incredible accomplishment: :’)

I had the pleasure of listening to some awesome questions being asked by some of the outlets. Hearing his answers were so fun. He is such a down to Earth, humble guy, who deserves all his success to come! Let’s get into it.

To start off, Kayla from Setlist asked regarding his big congrats with “Girls Like You” on CBS Mornings, how does it feel to be on national tv and how did your family react? Obai responded by saying it was “Crazy, my mom cried”. He also talked about how it was so inspiring to see clips of Gayle king with Oprah, Oprahs friend.

Omar from Dope At Its Finest asked regarding how the Arizona scene is rising, “How do you personally feel about the direction it’s going? Obai responded by saying, “It’s going amazing, so beautiful, so many people that are out here and that I get to be part of this group and I can see them everyday, I feel so blessed, I can see them everyday.” There are such great people and a hotspot along with his crib back home in Arizona, he states.

Omar from Dope At Its Finest also asked, “Your first single “Goodbye” was written in 2019. How has the progression been for you from then until now turning 18 years old?” Obai said that in 8th grade he wrote “Goodbye” which was super young. He loves the quality about music. He used to go back, drop a song, then drop the next song one after year. Now at this age, he cares more about development as an artist. “From when I started, now I have a stronger voice, better writing, more control over my voice, and a better understanding of where I want to be, and the purpose of what I’m doing and where I’m going.” He has such wise words for 18 years old, I love it aw.

Evan and Ivy from Move On Up Music asked Obai if he could play music anywhere [stadium, place, anywhere], where would you want it to be played. Without hesitation Obai replied by saying, “MSG, I can’t lie, its’ the biggest, i gotta touch the speakers.” RIGHTFULLY SO. and i think he totally can :’)

Izzy from Afterglow asked, “With all of the upcoming R&B artists coming up in this industry, how do you differentiate yourself and your music?” Great question. Obai replied enthusiastically which I loved, “Funny enough, I constantly create. Even if it might not seem natural, I just do stuff and it becomes constant. Seems minuscule at first and then can be bigger over time. I also love experiences. I go out and experience more. I take walks to put me in my own world, sometimes not even listening to music which i know music is everywhere.” That is so fun I love nature walks too!

Zoe from Sweaty Palms Podcast asked Obai, “What types of opportunities have you gained from posting music on instagram, Spotify, Apple Music, tiktok, etc.?” He said that “over time: this, I used to email a lot of people, I used to post and send links to instagram or email to get any opportunity. I am Blessed to be able to get signed over that, a lot of blog placements when I was younger which brought me to part of more label conversations when I was younger.” So he used to email, and it seems to work! His hard work is showing and at such a young age that is awesome and I am so happy for him.

We got to hear a “Turn Around” from his new EP and it was incredible! Definitely vibey and NOT a sleeper. I was bopping my head and getting into the beats. It was awesome.

Obai’s EP is set to release next Friday on January 26th, 2024! I recommend giving it a listen and giving your support because this young, new, and up and coming artist IS TALENTED. He is sweet and humble which is the best. He deserves all the success (hey that rhymed haha).

Thank you so much for reading along and I will catch you next time! Peace fam 🙂
