Hi all! Back at it again with another blog. I have been fortunate enough to attend UMG’s 1824 press conference, this week with Mae Muller. I have definitely listened to her music before after my sister introduced a song of hers to me a couple of years ago! She is an artist we all know and love. So I am excited for this one too. She had her debut album come out on September 29th, 2023 called Sorry I’m Late so I would check that out too! So ready for it.
Mae Muller is a North London singer who is bringing pop music to a new level. You may have recognized her name from her awesome collabs with Marshmello and Trippie Redd in their song “American Psycho” in 2021 as well a joint single with NEIKED and Polo G “Better Days“. This song was certified Platinum in the US & Canada and led to Mae making her debut on the Billboard Hot 100 charts reaching #23! So cool. She has a recent single called “MTJL (Maybe That’s Just Life)”, and I would recommend giving it a listen. Her voice is so soothing and the message is relatable to many and easy to listen to, I am excited to talk about this press conference!
Let’s get into some questions some awesome outlets have asked!
Evan from Move On Up Music asked, “Overall, how was representing the UK in Eurovision? What are some positive experiences from that to grow yourself as an artist?” Mae responded by saying, “There were many ups and downs but I am happy did it. I had the best time and it is the biggest stage. It taught me that I can do anything. It has made me a better artist and a stronger person, I re-evaluated a little bit, I knew my album would be reassure what she wanted to do and on the right path.
Another question Evan asked was, “what is a question you wished people would ask during interviews?” Mae responds with some thought as this is a GREAT question and she says “I feel like I love talking about the album, there is so much to talk about like the songs, characters, and cover art. I guess I would say the writing process. I like to showcase that and it is what I love and is my passion. I like to talk about that and things like that. Also I love when I am asked some super random questions like some fire round questions. Like dumb stuff you don’t usually get asked. It’s really fun.” I would probably say that too! Great questions about questions.
Lexi from the Music Room asked, “How does this album differ from the other music in your discography?” Mae said, “I think sonically i have evolved a lot. I think I sound more polished, I sound more sure of myself. When I first started writing, music was my armor and I wrote what I had to do. In this album I am not just doing that but showing vulnerability and what’s out there what I am feeling. Not that one version of me, all the in betweens. If i want to show that authentic side, I have to show that.” Such a great answer. I DO love her authenticity!
Liza from For The Punks asked, “Were there any pieces of art inspirations you had to write this album and what were they?” Great question Mae responded by sharing, “There is quite a few artists like Lily Allen her songwriting and lyrics really inspired me. Also I was listening to a lot of The 1975. It wasn’t just that, the music was more synth pop. Getting a lot of my inspiration from elsewhere. My cover art was inspired by the image of The Last Supper. Also I was inspired by Mac miller and color palet on his album. She also mentioned a photographer she loves. Her styling she took ideas and inspirations from. “My inspiration is from all over the place. Most of it was what I was going through and feeling and what came out just came out that way.” I think that was a beautiful response with lots of inspiring inspirations!
Liam + Lawrence KDU college radio asked how do you know when ur question is done? “Sometimes just when you can sit with it, and listen back to it and are happy with how it sounds.” Mae says and talks about how she doesn’t make a hundred versions like a lot of artists do. If lyrics are good and it’s a bop. SIMPLE YET EFFECTIVE, I love it.
Overall, this was a wonderful press conference. As predicted, Mae Muller is super cool and has a great personality. A mix with that and her talent makes her extraordinary and I believe she is going to go even so much farther with her career. Her debut album, Sorry I’m Late came out on September 29th, is definitely one to listen to! I recommend her because both her as a person and her music are great. Thank you so much for reading along and see you next time, peace fam! 🙂 ✌️💛
