Hey all! Hope y’all are doing good and in the mood to read about Chappell Roan and her new music! Chappell Roan has been praised and mentioned by outlets such as Rolling Stone, Vulture, DIY Mag, and Pitchfork. They have gone on to call her music “gloriously unserious” which is awesome. With “instantaneously memorable hooks and more than a few eyebrow-raising lines”. I have been able to learn more about Chappell through UMG’s 1824 press conference and have loved learning more about her!
She is about to release her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, on September 22. She has opened for Olivia Rodrigo (one of my favorite artists) and Fletcher on tours across the county. (super impressive)
Chappell, the small town rhinestone cowgirl will be going on her Midwest Princess Tour across the US and Canada. That’s so cool and exciting for her! She influences her fans to be themselves, which is the best, especially having a lot of fans who are in the LGBTQ+ community as well. We watched together and talked about her new music video and new music and I loved it! Very 80’s vibes and campy. Let’s get into it.

Here are a few questions the outlets asked during this conference.
Luna Collective asked, “How has your sound and lyricism evolved? What inspired the change?” Chappell responded and said she “I did a 180, I used to be dark and love piano ballad pop like Lorde, Lana esc. I was a teenager at that time and then I moved to LA. Moving there opened my eyes to new things, fun people, and doing things I never thought I would do. The new sound genuinely reflects what is going on in my life.” That is such a valid and accurate answer love that for her.
Libby from Lettuce and Cheddar asked about her newest song, “Hot To Go!”. “Where did the idea for the beat and melody come from? It has such an 80s structure, synth pop. Was it intentional or happened naturally?” Chappell responded and said, “it naturally developed that way. That song was written in the day. The song with “Hey Mickey” was a big inspiration, it is such a fun song and I wanted it to be a fun song”.
Jaymee from Off The Record Press asked, “What is the best part of having drag influence in your music?”. Chappell says, “I am inspired by drag in every aspect, I have 3 drag performers for every city I headline. Drag Queens have inspired my music videos, the energy of the show, hair, make-up, even writing. There is always a campy forefront, Campiness is at the forefront of everything. Over the top and supposed to be fun and dramatic.” Love that and the creative energy so much.
All in all this was a great press conference. She is doing so well and is only going up from here. She talked about having imposter syndrome and how she grew up and overcoming all of those things that came with growing up in the Midwest, especially with being in the LGBTQ+ community. I am going to enjoy seeing and hearing her name more often. I would love to go to a show one day too.
Thank you so much for reading along with me! Her tour is going to be so exciting and so is her album.
Don’t forget to check out her socials and keep up with her new music coming out, peace fam! :)✌️
