Hey all! Hope you have been doing good. I am back with another UMG 1824 press conference. It’s good to be back because this time I got to learn more about Reneé Rapp and her new music! This excites me for sure because I not only already love Reneé and her music but I have met her before! Her music is so good. No skips, only bops. I worked with her for several days on set (I can’t talk about it because of the strike going on rn, but she is awesome). So it is good to see her face again!
I also have tickets to go see Reneé in November which I am really excited for too! ahhh I am going with the friends I met where we worked with Reneé too. 🙂 It is going to be so much fun.
Reneé has always been one for the spotlight. At the earliest memories in her life, she always loved performing and had a huge love for music. Her career took off in acting and then headed back in the direction of creating her own music… both ICONIC. Her debut single “tattoos” took off and each song she puts out gets more and more popular. I am so glad I got to meet her when I did, it’s so cool to see her flourishing and becoming so much more successful :’) proud girlie over here.
Her debut headline tour sold out almost instantly. Her single “Too Well” has impacted the Top 40, and her whole discography has over 200 million streams, with way more numbers to come. She is on a ROLL. Especially with her tour starting mid-September on her “Snow Hard Feelings Tour”. If you know me, you know I love a good pun, so I am loving that already with the tour name. with support at her North America shows from Alexander 23 and Towa Bird. Her debut LP Snow Angel really shows off her vocals and I am so excited and thankful to hear it in November. Her single “Snow Angel” was so good. I play it all the time and always gets better.

Now onto the press conference!
Nina Evans asked. Music was always the goal. She didn’t think she was not a good actor and songwriting. It happened to fall in her lap acting. It has served her music. “Music was always mommy” she said.
“How has the women you work with impacted you in music industry?” This was a great question. Reneé said “I am the product of the people I am around” Valid and relatable. Rapp also said she is surrounded by great women and men too. The women in her life shape a lot around her.
Tessa from Portraits Digital Magazine asked “Sometimes when an artist comes out with passion projects, there are personal problems that feel resolved and neatly wrap everything in life. When the album was finalized, coming away from it, did you have more questions or answers about yourself?” This was also SUCH a great question for real. Almost immediatly Reneé responded with. “More answers”. She said, “I came away with that I will always have questions about myself. I was always trying to make sense of everything and want to understand everything. I blame myself and get frustrated when I can’t resolve feelings. My answer is that I need to accept myself and not beat myself up for it.” She is so real tbh.
Next up, Karly from Playlists and Polaroids (cute outlet name btw) said to Reneé, “I connect to your music because you have everyday relatable imagery. It is a very good backdrop to emotions. What draws you to techniques of scene settings and imagery and will there be more of it on snow angel?” Again, immediately says yes (woohoo love that). Then referenced slime tutorials which she talked about with Karly before the question too. Love that sm. Reneé says because she was a theater kid. “Theater has amazing storytelling on stage or on screen too. There is incredible writing and it surfaces everything. Just from listening to incredible lyricists and Sondheim and Andrew Lippa. There are stories that are driven and are beautiful crafted things. Musical theater has influence on pop music now too. This has had a huge impact on my career.” She said she hopes to die happy for that too. RELATABLE LMAO
Joryn from Her Campus mentioned how Reneé is such a fashion icon (OKAY REAL). Joryn asked, “Where does your fashion inspiration come from?” Reneé responds and says some of her ideas are credited to creative beautiful artists and her stylist assistant. “my style feels like everything but the kitchen sink. Some mornings I wake up and feel so feminine. shock. I go through phases. Or sometimes I am feeling little boy sh*t. My style thing has a wide range and encapsulates my personality from day to day.” I like that answer.

Sky Hooley from Vandey Radio asked “You are public about being in the lgbtq+ community, we are overjoyed to resinate with you. How has it impacted you?”Reneé responds and says “I have been out for ten years with so many different people and since I have been publicly out. I have become so much more comfortable in myself. The more publicly accepted, the more comfortable. Especially if no one homophobic and more gay, obvious. In being open about it, i have found the grace to do so within this community, which i would not have had. It’s not this hyper angelic woohoo but I have a very good fortune of an enormous queer community around me. We lift up each other. It is cooler to be gay in zoom call.” She feels confident about that too she says. Love that. She seems super comfortable with talking about it with us outlets and I am so happy for her.
Tara from Ease Up Mag asks “How much input to visual direction to highlight meaning for your song “Talk Too Much”?” Reneé says “It was probably a nightmare to work with me on that. Alaliyah had a hand in everything. She is my best friend. We had talked about this music video months ago before “Snow Angel” was going to be first. We continued to struggle with it constantly. We had constant communication about it. It was super fun but a mind f* to figure out, definitely was crushing it in the end.” Very accurate because “Talk Too Much” did in fact SLAY.
Anna from UNIA Zine asked “What song on the album describes what is going on in your life right now? Reneé says she is in her “So What Now” living era. “Basically like do you wanna talk? chat? come on, grow up, that place” “You’ll understand when you hear it. It’s about an ex who lives in the same city, why are you here? why?” This felt like a Facetime call with her it was so much fun. Like real convos with her.
This press conference was so much fun. Definitely one of my favorite ones I have been a part of because I already know and love Reneé. She is so fun to talk to and listen to. She talked to all of us like we were her bffs on a call and it was great. I am so excited for her tour and I am hoping to work with her again:) Don’t forget to check out her new music! Snow Angel is out now for everyone to love and relate too woohoo!! Like I wanna be her bestie and I am sure you can feel the same way too. She is super cool and relatable, like So real with her answers, it was so enjoyable getting to know her and her music a little bit more better too. UNtil next time, peace fam!
