Hi all! I am back with another press conference blog. 1824, a Universal Music Group creative solution team connecting artists and brands directly through fans through storytelling and experience, was able to grab time with one of Atlanta’s most popular female rappers, Pap Chanel. Pap Chanel stands for ((P)retty (A)nd (P)aid). Pap Chanel has caught the attention of many by her viral saying, “If I Want To, I Will”. She is all about reaching goals which is so so great.

Her song, “Gucci Bucket Hat” (featuring Future & Heroine Young) reached Top 50 on the viral charts and is taking the industry by storm. She has been acclaimed by many big name magazines such as The Source, Forbes, Complex, and more. She is just getting started and has already hit some success with her debut EP, Pretty and Paid. She has a great outlook on empowering women.
She seems really nice and I would like to share a few questions and answers from this press conference. She has different versions of her music and calls it ‘papinality’. We listened to her song, “Woah There”. This was a fun and upbeat ‘papinality’ version of her song.
Ellen from Bellas In Tune asked, “What has been your experience being a female rapper and being a women in the music industry, is it different than being a man? If so how?” She says that being a female in male dominated industry causes a lot of hardships. She sets herself apart from everyone else which she loves. Pap is a country girl at heart and always has tried finding her styles. “Guys in the industry, she explains, “always think they know what I am going to talk about in my music.” She sets apart her music from others and other female rappers. She does not not talk about usual stuff in her music. Pap makes a known presence. She says some people do not care to hear female artist. They just analyze her and does not ‘give girl a chance sometimes.’ Her advice for female artists should take that into consideration as well, it is great advice! Pap Chanel likes to set herself apart. Once individuals start listening, they will like her.
Ellen from Bellas In Tune also asked, “What advice do you have for other women who aspire to do what you do and be a female rapper?” Pap responds by saying, “You will never have any hiccups in life if you just be yourself”. Very true, lovee that! She says to not stand for the negative people in your life and to cut them off, it’s worth it. You can essentially be getting paid for being yourself, she says which is so great. Pap explains how we should all be authentic and your own person, females run the world, so be yourself.
Pap Chanel claims diversity with her six alter egos. These are called, ‘Papinalities”.
- Papiana: a fan favorite, she is cocky, bold, confident, outgoing, does not mind being the elephant in the room. Pap loves Nicki Minaj, so she says when she gives her a feature, she would be Papiana.
2. Papatouille: Bilingual queen, always a creative girl, never sleeps, and has style.
3. Papi: Inspired by Nicki Minaj, inspired by Roman. She says, “Don’t play with her.” Okay, noted ha!
4. Paprika: Her favorite. She is spicy, an instigator. Pap says that if someone messes with her, she will channel Paprika.
5. Papallion: Beyoncé to the Destiny Child. This is a different side of her. She has a soft side. She is emotional and very relatable. Won’t tell, Papillion.
6. Tupap: Business woman, storyteller, and does not play any games.
It is of course explained that there are different layers of Pap. They are always around when she is cooking up in the booth. There is a lot of personality, which is great, and she likes to express in her music. Pap explains that it is easy to tell and fans can easily identify in her music. Today, Pap Chanel says she is Papiana, nice!
Sarah from Rarepeace asked Pap Chanel, “What made you realize you wanted to be an artist to the next level?” In high school, she made freestyle. She always put her Pap style on it. She made a freestyles rap and the first day out, she got 3 million views in a week, she said! Pap talked about that she might need to be a news anchor because that, ha! Pap talks about what she wants to talk about in her beats, which is amazing. We love to hear that she presents herself and wants ‘be that girl’ in the industry. She has gone through hardships to find herself in the world. She went viral, and said it was crazy, this is the woman she wants to be, that is amazing!
Sarah from Rarepeace also asked about Pap Chanel’s writing process. She says that she loves freestyling. She said she did this a lot during Covid and lets her make songs way quicker.
Pap is a visual learner. She loves to sit back and watch things. This helps her get her own perception on things. This also always gives Pap something to talk about, she says, “such as this press conference.” Very true!
Pap Chanel wants to perform in Brazil and would love to go there and get the best photos. She saw someone do presentation one time on Brazil and every since then she has wanted to go there. It is very pretty there, she said.
“Tell us the story behind your name, Pap Chanel?” She explained that Pretty and Paid was created in the sixth grade. The reasoning behind this was because she really wants females to come together. She explained that in Georgia, gang related guys would come together. She wanted to make a movement and the the mind set while building confidence within these women too. She had everyone sign paper in school and she was going to email them so they could form a group and come together to empower each other and be bold! Her goal in sixth grade was to get girls together and motivated by each other. So, the name always stuck with her. Once she began her music, she shortened it to Pap Chanel as her rap name that her team loved.
Sunny from the outlet, B-Side asked, “If you had to choose one song or era that boosted you into mainstream, what would they be?” Pap responds with “Tupac’s song “Hit Em Up”, and in the 90s. She explained how this was a big representation of her as an artist. His song, “Hail Mary” was also a song that boosted her into making awesome songs.
Sunny from B-Side also asked Pap Chanel if she had advice for other musicians and how to make name for themselves? Pap gave the amazing answer to “Keep pushing forward and be yourself.” She says to “be your biggest fan”. She always explains how the right person will hear you and to be your biggest supporter. That is truly true and amazing. Pap says to push yourself and you will be put into the right earwaves. She was also asked what she would change in the industry. Pap is passionate about empowering women and being there for eachother, so she would want the industry to not be AS male dominant as it is. Some goals that everyone should have is to stay consistent. She wants to be the best at what she does and to be boss at what she does. Pap wants to be the legend of everything that she taps into. These are great words of advice and is definitely taken into consideration, women rule, and to the max!
All in all, Pap Chanel seems to have a really good head on her shoulders. I love her goal of empowering women and reaching your goals. I enjoyed attending this press conference and I enjoyed getting to know more about Pap Chanel and what she means, not only as a powerful female rapper, but also as an individual human being as well.
Thank you for reading along with me. I hope you all enjoyed as much as I did:) Until next time, peace!
