Hi all! Back with another press conference and this time with Gracie Abrams. Gracie abrams is a 22 year old singer-songwriter (same age as me, wow), with some banger songs! Joni Mitchell was one of her big influences and she wrote her first song at the young age of 8 years old! She has extreme talent. Last Summer, Gracie debuted her first album, Minor, in 2020. Last week, Gracie released released her single, “Feels Like”. She is on tour currently and is in Texas right now. She is also working on more music! She has done so much so far in her career!
Ellin on behalf of Bellas in tune started off the press conference by asking, “What advice would you give to women who aspire to make it in music?” I like this question, especially as an aspiring music industry professional. Gracie responds by saying how she actually looks for that advice too. Gracie says there is so much access to everything right now, which is massively helpful. She thinks that the most helpful advice in the past year has been trying to stay very quiet internally and to listen to what feels honest with everything about writing. She expresses how she is easily distracted and it sure can feel overwhelming at times. Gracie says to write as much as you can, your feelings, songs, etc. Also, Gracie says that it can be hard to find trustworthy people in the industry, but if you stay close to true people, it is easier to navigate through the noise.
Glasses factory also asked Gracie, “When people listen to your music, what messaged do you have n your music and what message do you want to convey to your audience” Gracie responds by expressing that her perception of her music has shown through performing on tour. She feels a lot more comfortable with writing how she feels other than just saying it. Her writing is honest and vulnerable. Playing in rooms with actual people and having them sing along has been massively inspiring to her. Tour helps her and many other artists write because of the intimate connection. It has been true for her and pushes her to be more honest in front of her crowd and feels so many emotions.
Tonitruale asked, “Do you think the habit of journaling and writing everything, helps you write songs?” She says “Definitely!”. It directly is the reason why she writes so much. She has been journaling for years and always wrote down her private thoughts. Growing up with many feelings emotions from life events, she was so amped to feel the sacred space of her journal. “It has been the direct thread to writing my songs.” She express strongly that, yes, journaling is the reason for the way she has been writing songs. It is always good to journal and get your thoughts down!

GRRRL Music asked, “How has it been different playing festivals versus venue shows?” She says it’s exciting but very different. There are no soundchecks. The second show that she ever played was a actually at festival! She was exposed early in her career. Which was very good. She loves being outdoors and because it is an open stage, she can walk from stage to stage and see others perform. Which, she didn’t think about before. She loved ACL and was grateful to have performed. festivals seem so fun!!
Gracie Abrams seems like an amazing person. Her music is personal and has relatable aspects from her life. This press conference was very fun to attend. She has an amazing career and is only 22 years old! She will go far in her career, I am sure. I enjoyed learning more about her and what goes into her own personal music. Don’t forget to check out her new single, “Feels Like”! Also, check her out on tour if you get the chance as well. She was super genuine and it was nice to listen to her answers! 🙂
Until next time, peace fam!
