Hi all! Hope you are having a fabulous day! 🙂 Today I was lucky enough to attend another 1824 press conference with the one and only Holly Humberstone! She is a very talented 21 year old British singer-songwriter from Grantham, England. I am excited to be talking about this press conference today and her upcoming EP The Walls Are Way Too Thin that is set to release on November 5th! From songs about mental health struggles to toxic relationships, there really are an abundance of songs to resonate with her about. her EP includes her milestone song “Scarlett” which is about a toxic relationship. Her upcoming EP also includes “Please Don’t Leave Just Yet” which is co-written and co-produced by Matty Healy of The 1975!!

Holly has iconically performed on amazing shows such as The Late Late Show with James Corden and with Jimmy Kimmel Live!. This is a dream for many and a dream that she deservingly has accomplished! She has even been noticed by BBC Sound of 2021 runner up and VEVO DSCVR Artist to Watch for 2021. Holly has many success stories already under her belt at the young age of 21 and so many more to come!
This press conference featuring Holly Humberstone had many intriguing and thoughtful questions. Here are a few that stood out to me the most. The first question was asked from Elin of Bellas in Tune a woman empowering outlet especially in music. She asked what can fans expect on tours. Such as teasers, etc. Holly hopes it will be a nice wholesome time. She has never been to the US! She puts a lot of love into her music and it is bizarre to her that people still connect to her music from that far away. She is hoping it will be good vibes. She recently did her first headlining show in the UK and thought it was great.
Bellas in tune was also wondering who are Holly’s favorite female artists. She states a lot of young female artists are emerging and there is a really nice trend of young females oversharing. They are not afraid to say how they are feelings in their songs. Holly is inspired by Phoebe Bridges and loves her a lot. She connects to how personal her lyrics are. Holly is also inspired by other great empowering female artists such as Gracie Abrams. Gracie Abrams does not filter herself or her lyrics and writing. There are many more. Too many to name!
Keiji from Music Room at Vanderbilt University in Nashville asked what musically we can expect from her. Lyrically for the rest of her EP, she was in the same headspace, A lot of the songs have a similar feel to it and it was an awkward time in her life. Such as when she moved away from her family, which is what “Haunted House” is about. She was feeling isolated, a feeling she has never felt before, definitely not fun. There is so much going on in South East London, but also it is so easy to feel lonely. The bigger the place, the lonelier it can get. It was a foreign place to Holly and nothing was familiar to her. She didn’t have anything to latch on to besides the studio which is where her EP came from. She was also going through and navigating first time relationships and moving away from home. All of the songs are a time capsule between that whole awkward time when she didn’t have a sense of direction. Holly has a lot of fun writing with other people. She kept her collaboration team small with people that she can trust and work well with. She doesn’t think too much of the type of music she makes. She just has fun with it in and messing around in the studio with synths and such and see what comes about from doing that.
His second question was wondering where has Holly felt most proud of her growth. Meaning making songs or people she has worked with. Holly says there is no other feeling like after completing writing a song. She feels so great after writing music and connecting with people through her music. There is no better feeling like, especially in that moment after making a song. She loves connecting to people on a really personal level and thinks there is more to come. Especially with her looking forward to coming to the US on tour. She was surprised people actually wanted to buy tickets to come to her show! One of her proudest moments was doing the london show last month. Holly absolutely loved seeing people there live and even singing along, love that!
Holly is so excited to come to New York! As a first timer coming to America, she is soo eager to come here, you can even tell from the way she was talking about it, love that! Hidden Hits asked what was it like working with Matty Healy on the EP. She said it was so lovely and nice. She was so lucky because usually he would be off touring. Because of the pandemic, he was in London and asked him to write with her. It was an unforgettable moment for her. She always listened to The 1975 and was reminiscing on her teen self listening to The 1975! She says he was very creative and was able to be authentic while writing music with her. Holly explains how different it is working with artists when pouring out emotions. It was cool to see and be a part of Matty’s creative process. She is hoping they will get to work together in the future again! I am so happy for her!
Their second question was about the important mental health themes in her music and songs. They wanted to know why it is important to her to include this writing theme in her music and EP. She thinks it is important to be vulnerable especially because there is a lot going on these days. She thinks personally because writing is good for her own personal well-being. Writing these songs and music is what also helps her with getting through everything and taking care of her own mental health. She writes mostly for herself. She is truthful and honest. Holly loves when people hear a song and relates to her situation if they are going through the same or similar kind of thing. It is very special. It really warms my heart too. Music is so powerful. Music is a global language where we all connect and are on the same page. Us as listeners resonate with that a lot, definitely me!

Fan To Band’s question was asking about how Holly writes her songs. She doesn’t have one specific way of writing songs. Anything that inspires her is really how she does it. Such as little words or phrases that she hears, or even from conversations that she has with people, she will jot them down. When Holly is with people she can trust when in the studio, she is able to write the best. She feels at ease like there is no pressure and in a safe space in the studio. She works well with Rob in production and talks about fun ideas and songs that come about.
This was a very interesting and enjoyable press conference to attend. Holly Humberstone is truly amazing and talented and so many aspire to be like her. She seems so sweet. Her personality is great and relatable. From her heartfelt songs to her relatable songs, there really is something for everyone. Don’t forget to listen on November 5th to her new and upcoming EP The Walls Are Way Too Thin! Also catch Holly Humberstone on her newly announced upcoming headlining tour!! There are already a couple sold out shows too. So exciting! Thank you for reading along I hope you enjoyed. Thank you! Until next time, peace fam!
