Artist Ryan Caraveo and His Life Stories!

Hi friends! I had another great opportunity to join a 1824 press conference with Capitol artist Ryan Caraveo! 1824 is a creative solutions team from Universal Music Group. Their goal is to connect musicians and outlets. Ryan Caraveo is from Seattle, Washington. Ryan begin his music career by selling CDs out of his backpack. He has gone on to get over 750 million spotify streams and over 250k spotify followers!

Finessed Media asked “There are artists that create art in the most unconventional places such as under their desk or in a closet, is there a special place you write music in?”. Ryan answered by talking about how his best work is written alone in a quiet space. When Ryan was younger, he said he would whisper words into his hands after sticking his head into a closet for the most silence. Nowadays, since he has a quiet space, Ryan usually ends up laying on the floor while writing. I like those vibes.

Finessed also asked what project is he most proud of. He went on by saying his new album North Sweetheart is what he is most excited about and proud of. He can’t use the same sounds and rhythms all the time which is why he is excited for something new. Ryan has to reinvent himself and what he is most interested about. I know we are all excited about Northend Sweetheart too!

For his mental wellness and self care, Ryan loves running outside to ambient music. That is how he meditates and he also jams out to Pandora. He loves playing video games when hanging out with his cousins, they are like his brothers which I found very sweet. Specifically for the video games, Valerant and Call of Duty are his go-to games. He has been playing Zero Hour on his computer as well.

In Ryan’s free time he loves playing chess and actually making music. There is not too much free time because of how busy he is. But most of the time, he is making music and enjoys every moment of it! That is a passionate artist right there.

HiphopIndie asked who influenced his style. Ryan responded by saying the way he wrote was greatly influenced by Eminem and Kid Cudi. Taking words that rhyme only they way they say it, not necessarily by the way the word is supposed to sound or is spelt. That is really creative honestly.

HipHopIndie music also asks what the typical music he makes is. The music he typically makes is a bit manic, honest, deep and deceptively sad. This kind of music is very personal and important to the creator which I respect a lot.

Robert from KSCU 103.3 FM went on to ask what Ryan’s favorite kind of sounds to experiment with is. Ryan has always loved different ways to use his vocals and make synths and melodies out of him like his vocal chop on “Superstar”. He said they will usually lean towards alternative or electronic.

Robert also asked what pushes him to stay focused. He explains how he just loves making stuff and is passionate about creating music. If money even didn’t exist, he would still do it. He loves making music that much and is his favorite thing. When music is the artists’ passion, that is when you know it’s good!

He learned how to rap through insulting his brother. It turned into making music. When he seriously started making music videos he never really had a mentor and it was up to him to be focused and on top of himself. He said he needs to be focused on it 24/7 or it wouldn’t work. That is how he started writing music. Motivation is so important and so admirable that he achieved his goals through hard work and passionate dedication.

Ryan gave advice for people wanting to get into music. Advice for very young individuals would be to develop music skills when you are younger because you can have the ability to be a sponge and soak it up. Although that does not mean success, it is all about taking risks and how you want to create, and breaking boundaries. Basically following your heart. To surprise people, you have to surprise yourself first too. He doesn’t sing much or play any instruments, he writes his music on his own.

360 Mag asked how it was to work with Steve Aoki. Ryan said that working with Steve Aoki was incredible. He grew up on hip hop and never thought raves were from him. One night he went out with his friends and discovered so many of these artists about 7 or 8 years ago. After working with him, it was a great shift in his music interest and was a pivotal moment in his life when he worked with him. He hangs out with so many different people and influences the music he makes.

360 Mag also asked how he chooses the order of music on the album. Ryan explains how his first album’s order had to do with the lyrical content. Meanwhile, on the second album they are in the order on how the sonic and music sounds. Sapphire Skies has to be reserved at night with the windows down he said too. Noted!

From the question asked by PINKWIFI, regarding the last time he went on tour, something different he will be doing is that he will not be complaining about everything while on tour. He wants to be appreciative of the moment. Live in the moment I would say!

Ryan is most excited to play “Holly” or “Stay Warm” on tour. He thinks “Stay Warm” will be a crowd favorite. He is confident about that one. Wow! I am excited about that one.

Peanut Butter Waffles was written when he was living in his apartment in Lake City. He had writers block for 2-3 weeks and was trying to force a bunch of things. This song was written when he was concepted out and at the end of his writers block. He did not think he was writing a song until he had 2 or 3 lines. “I can hear who’s not here” was a great line in the song. He was not feeling completely social at the time. It was very zoned in on a day when he wrote that. I am sure that is very relatable to many artists and writers.

Imposters syndrome is a real struggle in the industry. Ryan talks about how it is important to overcome it but also of course very real. When you know how everything works its hard to be blissful. There are people all the time in the comments praising him and he is wondering how he is an idol or an inspiration.

All in all, Ryan Caraveo is a very talented artist who is climbing his way up to the top. His upcoming tour will for sure be a thrill and his new album Northend Sweetheart is a great album with some true bops. His tour will be BUMPIN!

Thank you for reading, until next time! 🙂
